Why is Covid 19 like an STI?

Just like Covid, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's aka STD's) are 'everywhere', highly contageous and often don't show any symptoms.

In the same way that you can catch, carry and transfer Covid 19 without even knowing, you can have a 'silent' sexually transmitted infection and be sharing it with your 'special' friends!

And in the same way that you should get tested for Covid if you've been in a place with a known exposure, you should get regular sexual health checkups, especially if you are not in a regular relationship or have casual partners.

Regular STI checks are known as "STI screening" when you are well and do not have any symptoms. In the same way as we check blood pressure, cholesterol or weight, it's good self care to have a regular STI check or screen. And it's very easy to do via telehealth!

Common STI's include chlamydia gonorrhea HPV and herpes. Less common STI's can include the blood borne viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis B and syphilis.

In this video, Dr Emma Boulton discusses STI's and how we can help via TeleHealth.
